Oculus – defined as a round eyelike opening or design and as a circular or oval window. In reference to the film Oculus which was released in 2013 and stars Karen Gillan, Brenton Thwaites, Rory Cochrane, and Katee Sackhoff I believe it refers to what the characters and we as the audience sees.
What the characters see and experience is the plot of the movie because the question that is asked is, is it real? For me, that question was incredibly creepy because I didn’t know if they were crazy or sane, or something else entirely. Are the experiences of these characters real? In a very large sense, the events that brought them to the beginning of the movie are very real. Once the brother and sister have this mirror in their possession, what about then?
I saw this movie in the theatre with my friend and when the final credits rolled, we looked at each other and said, “What just happened?”We just watched the movie, and we couldn’t even explain it, but the questions that were left had us continuing the conversation long after the movie ended. I recommend this movie because I love the way I cringed in disgust and horror, but also I had to really think about what I was watching. Oculus is currently available on Netflix, so please let me know what you think of the movie when you watch it.
